Tan skin color

When I was in Holland during summertime, I noticed that many Dutch people who have a white skin tried to have a tan color. Some of them goes to the beach and lay under the heat of the sun just to gain the tan color that they want. My hubby and my in-laws who have a light skin think that they are too white.
